What is your commuting time?Commuters in Beijing spend an average of 5 minutes traveling to work each day, Guangzhou Daily reported. A few days ago Chinese New-Approach Urbanization Report was released that researches into the new strategy concerned. According to this report, commuters in China now top the world in commuting time (from home to work). The report cited here has been completed within a year by the Sustainable Development Strategy Research Group, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Statistics from the report shows that in out of the 50 cities that have been investigated, the average commuting time is over 30 minutes, with Beijing topping the list.“上班族”从范围上定义比较困难,有时可以包括所有的公司、企业、事业单位雇员(employees)然而考虑到这里讨论的是上班时间问题,译成commuters是比较恰当的“新型城市化战略”的翻译可参考中科院的网页,翻译成new-approach urbanization strategy对于“新型”这个词的翻译,网友使用了new-pattern, new-modelled, new-type, new-style等词汇,最直接的是使用new来翻译,后者用在口语中完全可以,前者带-的词汇在学术论文中常见“从家到单位单程”就是one way from home to work,有网友翻译成a single journey between home and work place,这样不好,方向不明,因为上班和下班的情况是不同的,上班是一路赶过去,而下班则可能没那么着急,再者“从家到单位”就是一个“单程”,所以 one way也可以省略最后谈一下“领先”的翻译,这里没有褒义色,这一点需要注意有网友翻译出“our woking part has an advantage comparitive to other countries over the time on the road to work,(拼写错误原文如此)”就是理解的错误译题二: “床吧” 广州球迷卧看世界杯 “今晚一起卧看欣赏世界杯吧!”年南非世界杯正进行得如火如荼,广州全城也被带入了世界杯热潮中,市民各出奇招,齐聚睇波向来对世界杯盛事绝不放过的广州球迷,今年又多了一个看球新方式--上床看原来,广州出现了一种能够躺着看世界杯的“床吧”所谓床吧,就是用床代替椅子的酒吧,球迷可以在宽大舒适的床上叹咖啡品美酒、享受美食,一起吹水聊天看球赛看表演参考译文:(以wiseme的译文为基础)“Are you gonna watch the World Cup in bed tonight?”The World Cup in full swing in South Africa is gripping the entire Guangzhou city as people come up with novel ways of watching the games here. The passionate Guangzhou fans have found themselves a new way this time to view the grand event—lying in bed. The “bed bar”, it turns out, has sprung up in Guangzhou, where fans can lie supinely in beds that replace barstools. By lying in spacious beds, football fans may watch comtably and chat waywardly about the games and shows while savoring coffee, drinks and delicacies. Are you suffering from “roadrage”?The roadrage, as the name suggests, means to drive with rage. The word “roadrage”, an entry in the new edition of Oxd English Dictionary, defines the surprisingly raging mood resulting from driving pressure and frustration at traffic congestion. Have you ever heard someone honking violently behind when you drive? The problem you might have associated with a driver’s personality probably is only the stroke of “roadrage”. With China surpassing the US and becoming the largest consumer of autos now, should we be more concerned about the “roadrage”? How much do we know about road rage aly,给人的感觉总还是不妥,所以我建议摆脱原文的束缚意译成should we be more concerned about the “roadrage”? Employers assume that those they hire know how to perm certain tasks. example your boss will expect you to know how to write a professional email and answer the phone properly. Those tasks are pretty simple, but others are a bit more complicated— example apologizing a mistake. That's not something everyone knows how to do. Here are 8 tasks, some simple and some not, that everyone must master:雇主希望员工能够完成一些日常任务,如写一封有水平的邮件或者是得体地接听电话等类似这样的任务其实是相当简单的,但是别的就复杂一点,就如在犯错之后及时道歉,这并不是每个人都知道怎么处理的接下来向大家介绍8项日常的基本任务,有些比较简单,有些比较困难,但是是每个人都应该了解和掌握的事情1. Sending a Professional Email: If you are under the age of 30 it's very likely you have been using email since you've known how to write. What you may not know is that there's a big difference between sending email to your friends and using this medium work-related correspondence. example, you may write in all lowercase letters, use slang and abbreviations, and perhaps even let misspellings and bad grammar go by, when sending email to your friends. Those are some of the "do nots" to which you should be attentive when corresponding with coworkers, your boss or clients.1. Writing a Memo or Business Letter: It's hard to imagine having to send a paper copy of a memo or letter instead of an email, but it could happen. In case it ever does, you should know how to do it properly.. 3. Answering the Telephone and Making Phone Calls: You've been making and receiving phone calls your entire life. Of course you know how to do this very simple task: you pick up the phone and say hello (or if making a call, you ask the person to whom you want to speak). That's fine personal phone calls but not business calls. When you answer a call you should always identify yourself by name and state the name of your department or company. Give your name to the person who answers the phone when you are the caller and then tell him or her who you are trying to reach.3. Making Introductions: When you meet someone new it is polite to introduce yourself to him or her. It is also polite to introduce people to one another. In a work-related situation it is always best to use first and last names. example, say "Hello. I'm Mary Smith" when you meet someone the first time. You can also do this when you run into someone you've met bee but whose name you don't remember. In that case, you can add "I know we've met bee but I'm afraid I've gotten your name." Chances are they don't remember yours either! When introducing others say, example, "John Jones, I'd like you to meet Peter Smith.". Taking Minutes at a Meeting: Many jobs involve attending meetings, at least occasionally. Often it is required that written records, called minutes, be kept of these meetings. At some point, the person running the meeting may turn to you to take these minutes. This will require keeping track of attendees and carefully taking notes of all discussions. You will also have to type up the minutes after the meeting.5. 6. Writing a 'To Do' List: Most jobs involve juggling multiple tasks. The best way to keep track of all of them is to keep a to do list. Write down all the tasks which you are responsible, prioritized by the order in which you must complete them. Include due dates. Whether you use a smart phone app, computer software or a piece of paper, make sure you can either check off or cross out items as you complete them.6. 7. Apologizing a Mistake: In order to apologize a mistake, you will have to admit you made it. That's a hard thing to do but it's necessary. It is imperative that you act quickly—as soon as you realize your error, talk to your boss or whomever will it will effect. Try to have a plan in mind to correct the mistake.7. 8. Calling in Sick: No one likes getting sick but, even more than that, most people hate calling in sick. A precarious job market has led us to believe our presence at the office (or wherever your workplace happens to be) is of the utmost importance. While it is true that you shouldn't take sick days unnecessarily, you should try to avoid infecting your coworkers—stay home if you have a something they could catch! A phone call is usually the best way to inm your boss of your absence but make sure to follow your employer's notification procedures.8.
