Worry.担心。As Dushka Zapata says, worry is a useless emotion. It does nothing but stress you out, and I hate that, so I hide from it. Why hasn’t Mom texted you back by now? A million morbid images spill through my brain. What if she collapsed somewhere? What if she needs my help? What if she’s been attacked by someone? She’s fine, I assure myself. More awful situations fill my head. Then she texts, I’m by the door. I breathe a sigh of relief. Fear. Fear of losing the imperative people of my life, who truly matter to me. I#39;ve aly lost some of my dear ones in an abrupt manner. I don#39;t have more mettle to bear losing someone again. Many times, I try to overlook it, but sometimes, my hands become moist if I hear about someone#39;s death. I don’t really hide from my emotions. I acknowledge that I feel them, but I don’t like feeling them. I know that emotions affect my ability to process information and make a logical decisions, and I don’t like this. I severely crush strong emotions that and hope they don’t come out again. But if I had to choose an emotion, I guess it’d have to be anger. Anger makes you do the stupidest things that you don’t mean. I try very hard to curb my anger, and I try very hard to hold the furious words in. I try to wait until the feelings pass before talking about what the problem was.

East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet." At least, that's what English writer Rudyard Kipling said. Truth is, nowadays Easterners and Westerners meet quite often. And when they do meet, naturally, they have to find an appropriate greeting. Aye, there's the rub. What's culturally appropriate for people in one culture may be completely out of line in another culture. So the best approach is to follow the well-known maxim, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." So what's an appropriate salutation for Americans? Maybe you aly know how to say, "How are you?" You might even know the customary response, "Fine, thanks, and you?" Is that all there is to greeting people American-style? Well, Americans do often use this trite greeting, and they generally expect nothing but the standard answer. (If you want to shock an American friend, the next time he greets you this way, tell him how you're really doing.) But most Americans enjoy a little variety now and then. In informal settings, you might hear Americans say, "How's it going?" (which doesn't mean, "What's your destination?") or "What's up?" (which isn't an inquiry about the stock market). Formal situations, on the other hand might call for expressions like "Good morning" or "Hello, it's nice to see you." 可能你已经懂得怎么说「How are you?」(你好吗?) 或者是「What's up?」(它也不是询问股市的动态) 而在另一方面,一个正式的场合所使用的问候语,则可能是「Good morning」(早安),或是「Hello, it is nice to see you.」(哈啰! After the initial "hello," what kind of comments are appropriate to kick off a conversation? You might engage in small talk and make a remark about the weather, your job or current events. Or you could ask your American friend about his recent activities or his upcoming plans. If you know that he's been under the weather, you might ask him how he's feeling. But don't make use of personal comments or questions like "Boy, you've put on weight!" or "What are all those bumps on your face?" or "How much money did that necklace cost?" Americans might take offense at questions or comments about money or their appearance. One other caution: In some social contexts, particularly in an office or a professional setting, greetings between the sexes should be very conservative. If you're a man, greeting a woman with a statement like "Wow! You look beautiful today!" may be construed as a come--on. So when you're giving a compliment, the key is to use discretion. What about overt displays of affection, like hugging and kissing? Contrary to some stereotypes, Americans don't go around hugging and kissing everyone they meet. Of course, girls might give each other a squeeze as a friendly gesture, and in some high society circles, a little peck on the cheek is a common courtesy. But except with family members and close friends, Americans usually don't give out wholesale hugs. Besides that, not all Americans are inveterate huggers anyway. So don't wrap your arms around the next American you see. He or she might be just as uncomfortable as you are.

China#39;s south-to-north water diversion project, to bring relief to China#39;s drought-ridden north by diverting water from the Yangtze River, is an-other mammoth water conservancy scheme larger even than the Three Gorges Project. The late chairman Mao Zedong first proposed the idea of the diversion project in 1952, intending the ambitious scheme to ease the growing water shortages in the cities of Beijing and Tianjin and the northern provinces of Hebei, Henan and Shandong. The south-to-north water diversion project, a result of 50 years of investigation and research, aims to divert water from the Yangtze River valley to the reaches of Yellow River, Huaihe River and Haihe River so as to ensure the water supply for farming, industry and life in northern China. The project will have three water diversion routes, namely the eastern route, middle route and western route. The eastern route is expected to supply Shandong Province and the northern part of Jiangsu, linking Shandong with the Yangtze River and bringing water north to the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain via the Beijing-Hang-zhou Grand Canal. Diverted from a major branch of Yangtze River, near Yangzhou city, the water will travel along existing river channels to the Weishan mountains of Shandong, before crossing the Yellow River via a tunnel and flowing to Tianjin. The central route diverts water from the Danjiangkou reservoir on the Han River via new canals near the west edge of the Huanghuaihai Plain to flow through Henan and Hebei Provinces to Beijing-a diversion rout totalling some l,246km in length. The nearby city of Tianjin will also draw water from the trunk line near Xushui in Hebei Province. Construction of the western route-which involves working on the Qtinghai-Tibet Plateau-between 3 ,000m- 5 ,000m above sea level-will involve overcoming some major engineering and climatic challenges. Once completed in 2050, the project will bring water from three tributaries of the Yangtze- the Tongtian, Yalong and Dadu rivers-nearly 500km across the Bayankala Mountains and then on to north- west China. The project was formally launched in 2002. Once it is completed in 2050, about 38 billion t0 48 billion cubic meters of water will be transferred yearly to the areas with a population of 300 million.

Cosmetic surgery helps make 60s new middle age?A woman is undergoing a cosmetic surgery.Cosmetic surgeryis altering not just how people look but how they feel by changing perceptions of middle age, a study showed Monday.Global research group AC Nielsen surveyed people in 42 countries and found 60 percent of Americans, the world's biggest consumers of cosmetic surgery and anti-aging skincare, believe their sixties are the new middle age.On a global scale, three out of five consumers believed forties was the new thirties."Our forties are being celebrated as the decade where we can be comfortable and confident in both personal and financial terms. The majority of global consumers really believe life starts at forty," AC Nielsen Europe President and CEO Frank Martell said. But that doesn't mean they want to look their age.Healthier eating, longer lifespans and higher disposable incomes have helped to hold back the years.
