He denied Georgia's allegations that Russia bombed a key railway bridge west of the capital Tbilisi hours before Moscow signed the cease-fire agreement. Television images showed a portion of the Kaspi region bridge destroyed. Witnesses say Russian troops remain entrenched deep in Georgian territory, away from the Abkhazian and South Ossetian borders, and that they still surround the key city of Gori. The ed States demanded on Friday that Russia pull out of Georgia immediately, accusing Moscow of "bullying" its tiny southern neighbor by sending in troops and tanks. On Saturday, U.S. President George Bush called Russia's response to Georgia's actions "completely unacceptable," in his weekly radio address. This is ground zero of China’s economical boom, tens of thousands of factories churning out just about anything the rest of the world wants to buy, and financing China’s extraordinary turnaround, in just 30 years going from Communist/ backwater to by some accounts, the world’s second biggest economy.China has 1.5 trillion dollars worth of foreign exchange reserves built up from its exports, and now it’s spending some of that money to buy up big overseas, it’s got a 200 billion-dollar/ war chest taken from those reserves to start with, and an insatiable demand for energy, resources, financial services, tech firms, IT providers, anything that will help them secure the raw materials and the expertise their economy needs. The spin's so far this year modest by international standards, 5 billion/ dollars for a near 10% stake of Wall Street investment bank Morgan Stanley, and initial billion for a small stake in / fellow Wall Street of bear stearns with an option to spend billions more. 3 billion for 10% of private equity group Black Stone plus energy deals in Africa, the Middle East, and Australia. But it’s just the start, Standard Chartered Research Head Nicholas Kwan estimates China is laying out about 20 billion dollars this year with much more to come. What you've seen the last year or so, is just the beginning of a new trend that China’s going out more and more actively, to acquire the kind of resources they need for their own development.Next year, he says that figure could be several times higher. Rumors persist that it could buy the giant mining house Rio Tinto. That deal alone / could be close to 150 billion. So where are the targets? Anywhere in the world, say analysts, but Africa still looms large at energy and resources.I thing it's persistent where they are, we can expect China to continue its long-term interest/ in Africa.Africa has pretty much welcomed China with open arms, but the reception may not be as warm elsewhere. With / election year coming up in the US, how will politically-charged Washington view a major takeover funded with Chinese government money.Politics always makes business sometimes tougher, so I would expect more resistance/, more time of quarrels, and rubbles, here and there.but China is in this for the long haul, it needs to buy big overseas to protect and boost its own economic growth, as some in the investment community are now saying it’s just the start of China’s great leap outwards. US Says Verification Key to North Korea Nuclear Deal希尔:朝鲜半岛无核化核实最关键 The leading U.S. diplomat conducting talks with North Korea and its neighbors on the nation's nuclear program says verification will be the most important aspect of the effort to remove nuclear weapons from the Korean peninsula. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill made the remarks during a speech in Washington. Last week North Korea submitted a long-awaited document that listed its nuclear holdings. North Korean officials also demolished the cooling tower at the country's Yongbyon nuclear reactor. The moves are viewed as key steps to ending the nation's nuclear weapons program, a long sought goal of the ed States and North Korea's neighbors. Ambassador Hill, the leading U.S. diplomat to the six-party talks, says the ultimate goal of the negotiations is clear. We have to have complete denuclearization," he said. "We have to make sure there is no stone left unturned. We have to make sure there is no clandestine uranium enrichment program that is somehow undeclared and unexcavated." China, Russia, Japan, the ed States and South Korea have promised Pyongyang energy, financial and diplomatic benefits in exchange for actions leading to an end to its nuclear weapons capabilities. Following the nuclear declaration, President Bush announced he is y to lift some trade sanctions against North Korea and is rescinding the country's designation as a state sponsor of terrorism. The next major step is verifying that North Korea has made a full disclosure of its nuclear facilities. Verification is absolutely key to this whole process," said Hill. "People often say how can you trust them? This has nothing to do with trust. This has everything to do with verification." The six nations involved in talks with North Korea are expected to meet later this month to discuss the verification process. Hill says the long, drawn-out diplomatic discussions are critical to establishing a nuclear-free Korean peninsula. At the end of the day the issue of North Korea's aspirations for nuclear weapons is an issue rooted in the region, an issue that can not be solved by the U.S. alone, an issue that really needs the active engagement of its neighbors," he said. Pyongyang's declaration came six months after it was promised and some critics say it falls short of a complete statement once sought by the Bush administration that was to include an admission of proliferation activities with Syria and other countries. The list of nuclear facilities does not include the number of atomic bombs North Korea has aly made. The main thing I take from Ambassador Hill's comments is that this is a problem that is going to be left to the successor of President Bush," said Jon Wolfsthal, a nuclear proliferation expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. "It is clear that the verification, the actual denuclearization of North Korea is not going to happen under President Bush's watch." North Korea's declaration clears the way for more international assistance, specifically food and fuel, which are in short supply in the isolated, communist country. 200807/43201

Saudi Arabia Rejects US Appeal to Boost Oil Production布什晤沙特国王增产石油要求遭拒 Saudi Arabia is refusing a U.S. request to increase overall oil production as a way to lower record high energy costs. In Saudi Arabia where U.S. President George Bush met Friday with King Abdullah. It is the second time in four months that President Bush has come to Saudi Arabia asking King Abdullah to boost overall oil production to help drive down U.S. gasoline prices. And it is the second time since January that the president got the same answer: No. Soaring gasoline prices in the ed States are partly to blame for the country's economic slowdown. Speaking to reporters before this trip, President Bush said he would tell the Saudi king that U.S. gas prices are even higher now than they were in January. He said demand is so high relative to supply that there is just not a lot of excess capacity. Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi says supply and demand are in balance. He told reporters in Riyahd that the country did boost output by 300,000 barrels a day last week but only to make up for declining production from Venezuela and Mexico. Al-Naimi says Saudi Arabia is aly investing billion over the next four years to increase production and is doubling the capacity of a refinery in Texas. "So how much more does Saudi Arabia need to do to satisfy the people who are questioning our oil practices or our oil policy?" he asked. National Security Adviser Steve Hadley says Saudi officials told President Bush that they do not believe an overall increase in production would dramatically reduce prices at U.S. pumps. Hadley says Saudi officials argue that higher prices are driven more by uncertainty in the global market and the lack of refining capacity for the quality of oil most ily available. Hadley says the Bush Administration will take that explanation to its own analysts to see if it conforms with what they think. 200805/39243
